For a Common Law Partner, Spouse and Children, a Fast-Track process has been implemented with an aim to complete the entire processing in 6-8 months. No income verification is required and if you are a citizen of Canada, you may even apply to sponsor if you are outside Canada but intend to settle in Canada once the sponsorship is approved and visas issued.
To Sponsor your Common Law Partner, Spouse and Children, the following is required:
- Proof of relationship
- Sign a Sponsorship Agreement with a 3 year obligation
- Must not have a criminal background or have defaulted on a sponsorship agreement or owe the government any money
- Sponsored Person to provide all personal documents
- All applicants must complete a medical examination and background checks prior to visa issuance
For all other relatives namely parents and grandparents, the process can take anywhere from 2.5 - 5 years to complete, since they must go through the process which involves an approval of the sponsor in Canada currently taking about 18 months and then the local visa office processing taking anywhere from 8 months to 3 years depending on the Canadian visa office processing time in the applicant's home country.
To Sponsor Relatives namely Parents and Grandparents, the following is required:
- Proof of relationship
- Sign a Sponsorship Agreement with a 10 year obligation
- Must not have a criminal background or have defaulted on a sponsorship agreement or owe the government any money
- Proof of sufficient annual income as per guidelines for the sponsor
- Proof of Employment of Business

Can-Quest will advise you on and handle the entire processing of your sponsorship application both in Canada for the Sponsor approval and once the application reaches the local visa office in the sponsored applicant's home country. Should an interview be required of the sponsored relative, which can happen in some cases, Can-Quest will prepare the applicant for the interview and provide all guidance and assistance to make it successful.
